Celebrities extend support to Imran Khan online, join protests across country
Thousands of people flocked to different parts of the country to protest
Scores of Pakistani celebrities, not just from media or entertainment industry but artists from all creative industries, have come forward to speak in favour of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. They expressed their disappointment ever since opposition filed for the no-trust motion against the premiere on March 8. Subsequently, the PM was ousted leading to more uproar on social media as well as protests against the dismissal. Imran Khan has always garnered support from the entertainment industry; stars have advocated for the cricket-turned-politician long before he rose to power in 2018. And they are still standing in support of the former premiere amidst the current political crisis in the country. While many wrote about it on their social media and extend their support, a few went and joined the protests on streets to show that there is still hope. Zara Noor Abbas, Asad Siddiqui, Syra Yousuf, Palwasha Yousuf, Haroon Shahid with her kids and other stars attended protests organised by the PTI in cities across Pakistan. They also shared pictures and videos on their Instagram. Zara and Asad Siddiqui shared videos from the protests.
Syra and Palwasha Yousuf along with friends were chanting slogans and raising PTI flags at the protest near Millennium Mall, Karachi.
It was not a common sight a decade ago to see stars affiliate with political parties on public platforms but PTI, particularly Imran Khan, has changed the dynamics in the past few years. Muneeb Butt shared a video as a proof. Singer and actor Haroon Shahid participated with his family.
Actor and plastic surgeon Fahad Mirza posted live from the rally and wrote: “This is what happens when people believe in an ideology! A sea of humanity turned out in Karachi to protest the removal of Imran Khan without just cause”. Mariyam Nafees expressed her disappointment at the new government. Quratulain Baloch also voiced her opinion. Illustrator Samya Arif designed something special for Imran Khan.
