Pakistani designer Zainab Chottani is a name synonymous with elegance, diversity, luxury and style. All these attributes and more reflect in her collections as well as her latest studio that was recently launched in Karachi.
Several celebrities including Sonya Hussyn, Ushna Shah and Aymen Saleem, as well as people from the media industry, were present at the opening of her very grand, multi-storey atelier.
Speaking exclusively to
Something Haute, Zainab Chottani shared her inspiration behind her latest collection, details about the beautiful new studio and her vision for the brand as well as red carpet tips for celebrities.
“My inspiration behind my latest collection
DIL AASHNA was the work intricacy and uniqueness. My latest collection is a bridal collection, pastel and bright hues were chosen to bring joy to the collection,” she shared.
As for her latest studio, she feels extremely grateful for the achievement. “I have worked super hard for many years to achieve what I have today and I’m extremely grateful for everything. My brand is my identity and I made sure it’s perfect in every way possible.”
She went on to add that her future plan is to make sure her brand evolves, and be known for her unique work style. “I would also like to see the sub-brand
TAHRA by ZAINAB CHOTTANI reaching new heights.”
Considering the fact that she is known as one of the most successful designers in Pakistan, we couldn’t help but ask her to share her thoughts about red carpet fashion choices that often end up getting negative publicity.
“Red carpet fashion in Pakistan is something that I see is changing,” Zainab said adding that’s she feels that we should own our culture.
“I feel like we should be wearing more of eastern rather than western and especially not those ball gowns at all and by eastern, I don’t mean
shadi clothes at all! It can be east-west fusion. Adapting to western-style is keeping Pakistani designers work at the back, that feels like not owning our culture.”
According to the designer, celebrities should be themselves and wear what they’re comfortable with. “Be yourself, wear what’s comfortable and be confident in what you wear, OWN IT.”
Concluding the little chat, we asked Zainab if there is a celebrity she would love to design for, to which she replied that she would have loved to dress Noor Jehan or Benazir Bhutto. “If I only had a chance to do that. Legends like Noor Jehan and strong women like Benazir Bhutto with that aura are rare.”
