Nabeel Qureshi wants to know when Pakistani cinemas are reopening

The world is slowly embracing the changes Coronavirus pandemic has brought within our lives in the last two years. Though the circumstances are difficult, and sometimes even life-threatening, the solution lies only in adjusting to the “new normal”. With time all businesses have somewhat returned to their original pace, but cinema owners are still fighting the battle and theaters are struggling to survive amid covid-19 restrictions. The release of a new James Bond film — No Time To Die — has breathed new life into UK cinemas and it is hoped that it will bring cinemas back to pre-covid capacity. This isn’t all; India also announced the reopening of theaters with the release of 15 new titles including Sooryavanshi, Laal Singh Chaddha, 83, Jersey, Jayeshbhai Jordaar, Shershaah amongst others. Despite many attempts to reopen cinemas in Pakistan with strict SOPs, there is still no clear indication that new Pakistani films will release anytime soon. Recently, Fahad Mustafa tweeted an encouraging message highlighting the release of the James Bond movie. He seemed hopeful as he wrote “world is getting back to normal its a good sign!”

  However, his film director and friend, Nabeel Qureshi seemed restless as he asked when will cinemas reopen?

Fahad Mustafa and Mahira Khan starrer Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad was scheduled to release in 2020. Then there is Khel Khel Mein that features Bilal Abbas Khan and Sajal Aly. Nabeel and Fizza Ali Meerza have also been working on Fatman featuring Ahmed Ali Butt and another web series on Lyari gang war. With all his releases in pipeline, it seems that Nabeel is patiently waiting for a green signal and has made the most of the pandemic to work on many scripts. However, like many directors and stakeholders involved in the business, his patience is also wearing thin. So, let’s hope that the last quarter of 2021 and the upcoming years will bring a good news for the film industry.
