Pakistan pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai has launched a week-long film festival

Pakistan has launched a week-long film festival at its pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai. Eleven films will be screened at the festival with the aim to showcase Pakistani film industry’s versatility and talent at the world’s largest fair. “The Pakistan Pavilion presents Pakistan Film Week! Join us every Friday and Saturday, 6pm onwards at the Multipurpose Room for a screening where we will showcase films with contrast genres that have made Pakistani cinema one to keep an eye out for!” read the official announcement.

  The inauguration was held on Friday, January 21 and was attended by Fawad Chaudhry, Pakistan’s Minister of Information and Broadcasting, as well as Afzaal Mahmood, Pakistan’s ambassador to the UAE.

  In his address to the audience, Fawad spoke about the various improvements he and his team have made to bring Pakistani entertainment to the forefront and ensure the country has a chance to tell its stories to the world. He also invited the UAE community to produce films in Pakistan and collaborate with Pakistani talent to create content for the global audience. Singer-actor Ali Zafar and producer-actress Hareem Farooq were also present at the event. Ali Zafar, who performed at the world fair for a second time on Thursday, shared his gratitude. His film Teefa in Trouble, which was directed by Ahsan Rahim was the first to be screened at the festival. “Honoured that “Teefa in Trouble” was selected to open the Pakistan film festival,” he shared on Twitter.
